Cycle Enforcement

On Friday 10th July officers from the Vincent Square ward team were joined by colleagues from Pimlico North, St James’s and our Town Centre Teams to conduct a cycle enforcement operation in the area.

Officers on foot and bicycles were deployed along Victoria Street, on the Cathedral Piazza, within the Nova development and in Cardinal Place to remind cyclists of the rules they must abide by and which they all too often ignore.

We are mindful that this has become an important priority for many of our residents and it is now a ward priority for the months ahead.

Cycling through read lights and on our pavements is against the law and presents a real threat to the safety of other road users and pedestrians.

On Friday we issued multiple Fixed Penalty Notice tickets which carry a fine of £50. There were also many opportunities to engage with cyclists and to issue verbal warnings about the need to obey the rules of the road. 

Over a dozen officers were involved which gave the operation high visibility and a wide area of coverage. Given the importance of this issue, we plan similar operations in the near future.
